The Lagos State Government has suspended the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on the Island because of a factional clash in which one person was killed yesterday.
Two policemen were injured in the skirmish.
Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal told reporters after a security council meeting at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja that the action was to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
Urging the union to comply with the directive, he said government would proscribe NURTW if its members continued to disturb the public peace.
He said: “We are also using this opportunity to call on NURTW leadership in the state that nobody or group of persons, organisations would be allowed to tamper with the peaceful security situation in the state and the government would not hesitate to proscribe all union activities in the state if their members do not obey the laws of the land and ensure that their activities do not amount to breaching the peace.” Read more
