2019: I’ve No Plans To Campaign For Buhari –Umahi
Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has debunked insinuations in the social media alleging that he had rejected his recent appointment as the South East Cordinator for Atiku/Obi Campaign Organisation ahead of 2019 general elections. Speaking shortly after the State Security Council meeting on Thursday Umahi also denied speculations that he had concluded plans to distribute bags of Abakaliki rice branded with campaign pictures of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, ahead of Christmas’s and New Year celebrations.
PSP Operators Hail Lagos Assembly’s Recall Resolution
The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, popularly called PSP operators, has described as a welcome development the recall of its members by the Lagos State House of Assembly. The Assembly had on Thursday passed a resolution that the PSP operators should return to their function of managing waste in the state. The Assembly reportedly denied knowledge of the foreign company, Visionscape, engaged by the Lagos State Government to take over waste management in the state from the PSP operators. The Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, directed that the Commissioner for Finance should stop releasing money to Visionscape, explaining that the foreign firm’s contract with Lagos State was without the Assembly’s knowledge and approval.
Debts: DMO, Fayose Disagree Over Ekiti State Liability
The Debt Management Office has said that the immediate past administration of Mr Ayo Fayose had a debt profile of about N120 billion as at June. The revelation about the financial records of Ekiti was contained in a document submitted to the DMO office in Abuja by officials of the state government in July, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday. NAN, however, reports that the DMO document was contrary to claims by the former governor that his administration left behind a debt profile of less than N60 billion.

Eighty-Six of the nation’s 91 political parties were engaged in a last minute rush, last night, to submit their lists of National Assembly and presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in order to beat the midnight deadline. As of 7pm yesterday, 86 political parties had been given tally and were on the queue. Out of the figure, over 50 political parties including the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, had completed the processes. No fewer than 89 political parties had notified the Commission of their intention to conduct their primaries and sponsor candidates to the Commission for the 2019 general elections.
Fayose to Explain ‘$5.3m He Got from Obanikoro’
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose is telling the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detectives all he knows about the N4.685 billion allegedly withdrawn from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA). Fayose spoke yesterday after 72 hours in detention. He admitted knowing a former Minister of State (Defence) Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, who ferried N1.299billion slush funds to him in a chartered jet. He also said he has links with Abiodun Agbele, who allegedly bought six choice properties for him in Lagos and Abuja. But the ex-governor added drama to his grilling when he wrote the EFCC to demand an additional mattress in his cell. He said sleeping on two mattresses will be more comfortable for him. The EFCC was looking into his request as at the time of filing this report.
Ekiti Muslims Reject Fayemi’s Appointments
The Muslim community in Ekiti state on Thursday rejected what was called lopsidedness in the three appointments made so far by Governor Kayode Fayemi, since he was sworn in on Tuesday. The News Agency of Nigeria, reports that state Coordinator of the state chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations, (NACOMYO), Mr. Tajudeen Ahmed, made the displeasure of the group known at a media briefing, after a protest staged at the Ado Ekiti Central mosque. He described the appointments made so far by the new governor as not only lopsided, but also a grand plan to totally marginalise the Muslim community in the state.”
FADAMA Project Distributes over 2000 Goats to IDPs in Bauchi
As part of efforts aimed at rehabilitating and cushioning the effects of poverty amongst IDPs that are taking refuge in Bauchi State, the World Bank Assisted FADAMA lll Additional Financing Project has distributed over 2000 ruminants to IDPs for rearing, to enhance their economic status. The initiative tagged “North East Food Security and Livelihood Emergency Support Project”, is being implemented as a result of insurgency that ravaged that particular region. Speaking to newsmen Thursday at the ongoing distributions exercise to beneficiaries in Bauchi State, an official of the FADAMA Project in the State, Mohammed Danladi Abdul said the interventions cut across the entire twenty Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.

College of Education lecturers have said that they are not intimidated by the Federal Government threat of ‘no work, no pay’ policy that is contained in the draft White Paper. The lecturers said that for the government to come up with such threat to cow them was an indication of insensitivity and irresponsibility by the government. A statement by the National President, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, Nuhu Ogirima in Abuja, Friday, stated that the Federal Government disposition had only vindicated the perception that the current Federal Government does not care for the less privileged, whose children constitute over 90 percent of Colleges of Education students population.
1 Killed as Kaduna Govt. Imposes Curfew On Kasuwan Magani Community
A communal clash at Kasuwan Magani, in Kujuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State left one person dead and scores injured on Thursday evening. The situation forced the state government to impose a 24-hour-curfew on the community. Kasuwan Magani is less than 40 kilometres away from Kaduna metropolis; and gateway to the southern part of the state, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue States. Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s Senior Special Assistance on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, in a statement, said the curfew took immediate effect.

Film producer Jason Blum has apologized for claiming in a recent interview that his company, Blumhouse Productions, has never produced a theatrically distributed film by a female director due to a shortage, particularly of those “inclined to do horror.” His apology came after social media users and media outlets, annoyed by the comment, provided multiple examples of female horror directors with whom Blum and his company could work. “Thank you everyone for calling me out on my dumb comments in that interview,” he wrote in his statement, referring to his chat with Polygon, which published its interview with the Academy Award-nominated producer on Wednesday. “I made a stupid mistake.”
China Plans to Launch an ‘Artificial Moon’ to Light Up the Night Skies
The night skies might soon have company: Chinese scientists are planning to launch an artificial moon into orbit by 2020 to illuminate city streets after dark. Scientists are hoping to hang the man-made moon above the city of Chengdu, the capital of China’s southwestern Sichuan province, according to a report in Chinese state media. The imitation celestial body — essentially an illuminated satellite — will bear a reflective coating to cast sunlight back to Earth, where it will supplement streetlights at night.

A senior leader of India’s ruling party warned on Friday that protesters in the southern state of Kerala would take the law into their hands if officials attempted to let women enter a hill temple at the center of a raging controversy. President Donald Trump praised Montana Republican Rep. Greg Gianforte for assaulting a reporter during his campaign last May, saying “any guy who can do a body slam … he’s my guy” and made a gesture mimicking a body slam. At a Montana rally Thursday night, Trump admitted, “I shouldn’t say this,” but continued and said, “there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.” The comment comes at the same time as the administration responds to the disappearance and apparent murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Khashoggi was last seen entering the Saudi consulate on October 2 and Turkish media reports that an audio recording suggests Khashoggi was tortured and killed soon after entering the building before being dismembered.
