The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has opened three new operation offices in Kano, Adamawa and Edo States.
The development is aimed at bringing disaster management operations closer to communities, reducing the response time to disasters in those states.
A statement issued on Monday by the Head Media and Public Relations of NEMA, Sani Datti, said: “NEMA is making conscious efforts to build stakeholders’ capacity and devise an appropriate mechanism to address the various facets of disaster risk reduction, namely- prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.”
Mr Datti noted that to achieve all these, “There is the need for cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders at the Federal, State, Local Government and Community levels.”
The statement, however, expressed satisfaction over the fact that members of the public call on the agency for minor incidents. It said: “It is a testimony to the level of confidence placed on the agency by members of the public.” Read more
