The Kano state government, on Tuesday, disbursed N1 billion interest-free loans under the Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme (CACS), to over 4,000 members of 517 associations of farmers in the state.
Launching the scheme at the Coronation Hall in Kano state Government House, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said the loans were part of efforts by his administration to revitalise agriculture, empower farmers and ensure food security.
He hinted that the initiative was borne out of the need to reinvent agriculture in the state as one of the key solutions to the current economic recession and an opportunity for farmers to boost their harvest, adding that a workshop would also be held to train the beneficiaries on the utilisation of the funds.
Ganduje urged the beneficiaries to use the loans acquired judiciously, warning that a special mobile court has been constituted to pursue any beneficiary who defaulted in re-paying the loans after the expiration
