Some dare-devil gunmen attacked three courts in Benue states, carting away appliances and money. The attack began on Wednesday at about 8am.
According to Punch, the gunmen invaded the Magistrate’s Court 1, the Upper Area Court and the Benue High Court, where the wife of the deputy governor, Justice Mary Abounu, was already seated.
A magistrate at the Magistrate Court 1, Mr. Isaac Ajim, said, “Actually, the first court the hoodlums visited was the Magistrate’s Court 1. They broke into the courtroom and the chambers, where they carted away one computer, a printer, a generator as well as files for various cases.”
After attacking the Magistrate court, the gunmen proceeded to the High Court 9. Mr Ajim said, “After the criminals were done with my court, they proceeded to High Court 9, presided over by the wife of the deputy governor, Justice Mary Abounu, and carted away a refrigerator, three stabilisers, a set of computer, window blinds and left behind empty bottles of drinks.”
At the Upper Area Court, the thugs took away N280,000. The registrar of the court, Mrs. Sarah Gboji, confirmed the theft when she said, “The thieves made away with N280,000.”
Apart from taking away cash, appliances, and case files, the gunmen destroyed the courtrooms and locked all those within the court premises inside with padlocks they brought with them.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Michael Gusa, who confirmed the attack, urged youths in Benue to stay away from criminal acts as he vowed to fish out those involved in the crime and punish them appropriately.
