Woman poured acid after accepting marriage proposal

Tragedy struck a 25-year-old woman, Ogochukwu Nwosu when acid was poured on her by two men on a motorcycle.

Ogochukwu was returning from work when the incident  occurred. She was immediately rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH where she is currently receiving treatment by passersby, Punch reports.

The victim who just accepted a marriage proposal from one Mr. Chidi, said Mrs. Chidi was the culprit. She said Mrs. Chidi has been threatening her since she learned her husband wanted to marry her, that Mrs Chidi promised to wreck havoc before December which was set for the traditional marriage between Ogochukwu and Mr Chidi.  She said, “I suspect Mrs. Chidi because she had been threatening me before the incident. And while I was on admission at the hospital, she called and spoke with my brother, saying that was just the beginning.”

The case was reported at the Itire Police Division by Ogochukwu’s brother, Peter who said he recorded a part of the conversation with Mrs. Chidi on his mobile phone.

The police, however, admitted the suspect, Mrs Chidi, was arrested and granted bail after the case was transferred to the SCIID. The state police PRO, SP Dolapo Badmus said the suspect was granted bail because police could not find any clue that linked her to the case, “Mrs. Chidi was picked up, made to undergo investigation and the command could not get any clue linking her to the case for now. And to protect her right, she was granted bail. Investigation is still ongoing to unravel what actually happened. Anyone linked to the case will be duly prosecuted.”

Counsels to Ogochukwu, Louis Nwaugbala and Anthony Obi are insisting that Mr Chidi and his wife should take Ogocukwu abroad for treatment and plastic surgery for the burns on her face, hands and breast. Nwaugbala said,“That is the only thing that can assuage the damage presently done to her. She should be flown abroad for treatment.”
