Policeman arrested for killing trader in Benin

The police in Edo State have arrested an inspector for allegedly killing a timber trader, Imafidon Ogbebor, in Usen, in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

Ogbebor, who was married with children, was allegedly shot by the policeman at Igbobor village on Tuesday.It was learnt that the policeman, attached to the Iguobazuwa division, had in company with other policemen drove recklessly into the community. They were said to have been accosted by a cleric in the community and the victim. It was learnt that the inspector fired at Ogbebor.

An eyewitness, Godspower Ojo, said the policemen, who appeared to be in pursuit of some suspects, also accused the cleric of being one of the suspects. He said, “The pastor and the victim had asked the policemen why they drove dangerously into the community, adding that they could have killed children. Read more
