Boko Haram gave me N200 for suicide bombing- suspect
An 18-year-old Boko Haram suicide bomber, Amina, who was intercepted by men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday in Maiduguri, said she was given N200 for the mission.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that she was abducted two years ago by the sect members in Madagali, Adamawa, and taken to Sambisa forest. “They gave us N200 each which they said we should use to buy food for ourselves. Read more
Nigeria will stop fuel importation by 2019 – Kachikwu
Nigeria will stop importing refined petroleum products by 2019, Mr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, said on Tuesday in Abuja. Kachikwu made the disclosure at a public hearing on the review of petroleum pricing template for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) organised by the House of Representatives. Read more
UNILAG bans tight-fitted trousers, mini-skirts, others among students in new dress code
The management of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has, in a new dress code it issued to the students of the institution, banned tight-fitting clothes such as tight pair of trousers, mini-skirts, blouses and other body revealing ones. In a circular to the undergraduates, the school said, “all clothes, which reveal sensitive parts of the body such as the bust, chest, belly, upper arms and the buttocks. Example of such dresses are transparent clothing, spaghetti tops, tubes and. Skirts and dresses with slits above the knees fall in this category.” Read more
Breaking news: FIFA bans Giwa, others for 5 years
The World Governing Football body, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has insisted on a worldwide extension of sanctions imposed by the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) Disciplinary Committee on 12 May 2016 against Christopher Giwa, Muazu Suleyman, Yahaya Adama, Sani Fema and Johnson Effiong for breaches of the NFF Statutes and the FIFA Code of Ethics. GOVERNOR of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday, said he was unacquainted with any arrangement by a former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, who returned to the country after his jail term in the United Kingdom, last Saturday, to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC. Okowa, who spoke in response to a question by a journalist at a quarterly media chat in Asaba, said Ibori was not talking about politics at the moment, but more interested on how to manage his family. Nigeria Targets Economy to Grow at Annual 7% by 2020
The Ministry of Budget and National Planning said on Tuesday that Nigeria is targeting economic growth of at least 7 per cent a year by 2020, a far cry from its current recession, the first in 25 years, Reuters has reported.
Nigeria’s economy is heavily dependent on exports of crude oil and has been hobbled by low global oil prices that have slashed government revenues and the availability of foreign currency. Read more
Rivers rerun: Panel recovers N111million from INEC officials
Over N111 million was recovered from 23 officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who were deployed to Rivers State for the recent rerun parliamentary election in the state, the police said on Tuesday.
The unnamed officials have been indicted for their involvement in the incidents and violence that occurred during the election. Read more
Court freezes Ozekhome’s account over suspicious N75m lodgment
The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered a temporary forfeiture of N75million found in the account of an activist-lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
The account is domiciled in Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB). The order followed an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Read more
Ex- Reps member Duru arraigned for fraud
A former member of the House of Representatives, Nze Chidi Duru, was arraigned on Tuesday before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for allegedly diverting N16.1m pension funds.

2019 Igbo Presidency: Obasanjo means well for Ndigbo, says Ifediobi
A founding member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State and a Biafran war veteran, Chief Joe Ifediobi, on Tuesday, berated those condemning former President Olusegun Obasanjo for advising Ndigbo to position themselves for presidency in 2019.

Dogara queries N2.7trn spent on power sector
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara, has queried the utilisation of N2.74 trillion spent on the power sector from 1999-2015, saying the sector depreciated more as more funds were pumped into it.
Dogara, who was speaking at a 2-day stakeholders Interactive dialogue/workshop on the Nigerian Power Sector organised by the National Assembly, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, also noted that the challenges faced by the sector calls for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to address them. Read more
