The Senate has agreed to rename the airport in Benin City, Edo State after the late Oba of Benin Kingdom, late Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolopolo, Oba Erediauwa. The airport is to be renamed as Oba Erediauwa Airport.
The senators reached the decision during Tuesday’s plenary session. The motion was sponsored by Senator Matthew A. Urhoghide representing Edo South.
The Senators renamed the airport as a way of immortalizing the late Oba for his selfless service to the country.
The lawmakers through their official twitter [email protected] said “By way of immortalizing this great Nigerian, rename the federal airport presently known as ‘Benin Airport’ as ‘Oba Erediauwa Airport’ Senate believes that the memory of the Late Erediauwa is worth immortalizing.Senate notes that the Oba’s role in the creation of Edo State from then Bendel State is a role that made him the Father of Edo State. Senate recognizes the selfless service of the Late Oba of Benin to our great nation, at a time when the services were most important.”
