Former minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has faulted Senator Dino Melaye’s theatrics that eventually landed him in a hospital. Melaye had jumped down from a moving police vehicle in an attempt to escape being allegedly taken to Lokoja, Kogi state capital and sustained injuries in the process. Reacting via Twitter, Fani-Kayode wrote, “A Senator should not behave like this: not even an APC one. This is not honor, strength or class. “I deplore what @MBuhari is doing to those that oppose him,including those that put him in power like @dino_melaye, but we must face our oppressors with dignity, strength and courage”. Gunmen rain bullets on Delta APC chairmanship aspirant (Punch)

Gunmen have reportedly shot one of the chairmanship aspirants for the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Silas Buowe, on the stomach. Buowe was attacked around the Forest Holiday Hotels along Emiye Road in Oleh, administrative headquarters of Isoko South Council Area of the state on Wednesday, after a haircut. The victim who had intensified campaign to become the next APC chairman in the state in the forthcoming convention, is also the senior pastor of Faith Teaching Bible Church, with headquarter in Oleh. He was also the former member of the Delta State House of Assembly for Isoko South Constituency II between 2003 and 2007. Read more

Melaye: ODA sue for peace (Nation)

The umbrella body of the Okun speaking people of Kogi, the Okun Development Association (ODA) has appealed to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure peaceful resolution of the political impasse between the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye and forces within and outside the state. The President General of the association, Femi Mokikan gave the charge in a statement issued on Thursday in Lokoja, the state capital. Benue Assembly suspends plenary, summons Governor Ortom (Tribune)

Benue State House of Assembly, Thursday suspended plenary for a week to honour those killed by Fulani herdsmen in the state. The house at its sitting on Thursday also summoned the state governor, Samuel Ortom to appear before the House to brief them on actions taking by the State Security Council to halt the incessant killings of Benue people by Fulani herdsmen militia. Members of the house arrived at this after debating on a motion by Dr Iorno Jato under urgent public importance, the house resolved that the  governor is to appear in plenary next Wednesday for the interface. INEC releases timetable for Osun governorship election (Punch)

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun has released the timetable for the conduct of the state’s September 22 governorship election. Presenting the timetable to newsmen on Thursday in Osogbo, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, the newly appointed Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner said election activities would commence on June 23 with the release of “Notice of Election’’ by INEC. Agbaje said political parties would commence a public campaign on June 24 while candidates for elections and their parties would have the opportunities to obtain forms at INEC headquarters from June 25. The REC said that party primaries and resolution of disputes arising from the primaries would hold from June 24 to July 23. Read more

2019: INEC seek NOA, NYSC’S support for credible election (Nation)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has sought support of the National Orientation Agency & National Youth Service Corps to enhance success of 2019 general elections. A former Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Waripamo Owei-Emmanuel Dudafa, on Thursday told the Federal High Court in Lagos that he has no case to answer in a N1.5 billion fraud charge. Dudafa and his co-defendants in the case, Iwejuo Joseph Nna, also known as Taiwo A. Ebenezer, and Olugbenga Isaiah, asked Justice Mohammed Idris to discharge and acquit them. A monkey was filmed in Bogor, Indonesia, wearing a suffocating mask as it asked drivers for money at the side of the road. North and South Korea prepare for ‘historic’ border summit (Skynews)
