A second-half blitzkrieg from the Super Eagles of Nigeria enabled a walloping of the Libyan National team during an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo.
The tone was set as early as the fourth minute when striker, Odion Ighalo, was upended by the Libyan goalkeeper which resulted in a spot kick which Ighalo duly dispatched.
Both teams traded possession in a very evenly-matched first period with the match just producing a goal by the interval.
The floodgates opened in the second period with Ighalo grabbing his second goal from a wonderful slide-rule pass from the playmaker, Alex Iwobi, before rounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net.
The Changyung Yatai striker completed his hattrick when he scored a rebound from the Libyan keeper’s initial save after a pinpoint cross from the right flank by the captain, Ahmed Musa.
The rout was completed in the dying seconds of the game with striker Samuel Kalu smashing in a curling shot from outside of the box after good work and an assist from substitute, Henry Onyekuru.
The Eagles play Libya in the return leg in Tunisia on Tuesday.
