Again, Buhari Commends Jonathan
President Muhammadu Buhari has again commended former President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting the outcome of the 2015 presidential election which he (Buhari) won. Buhari spoke while hosting some entertainers of the Northern Nigerian extraction, Kannywood, to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday evening. The president who spoke in the Hausa language said he would continue to hold Jonathan in high esteem because of that decision. The President said, “I will continue to hold former President Jonathan in high esteem as a result of that singular act. “He (Jonathan) was in power as deputy governor, Governor (Bayelsa), Vice-President and President, all for about 10 years and he voluntarily accepted defeat and surrendered power to me.”
IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Spotted In Jerusalem
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has been spotted in Jerusalem in a video circulating online. The pro-Biafra separatist group leader, clad in white cloth and a cap was seen praying at the wailing wall in the Holy City. Radio Biafra had earlier confirmed in a tweet signed by Uche Mefor, the deputy leader of IPOB, that Kanu would be broadcast live on Facebook praying in Jersualem. “The Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of #Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would within an hour from now praying in Jerusalem Live on facebook. All are enjoined to hook on. Chukwu Okike is in charge!,” the tweet said.

The Federal Government says it is engaging foreign media organisations, networks and think tanks to shape their opinion on the true position of things and to also correct the negative narratives about the country and President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this in London after an engagement with the Royal African Society, a body founded in 1990 to promote relations between the UK and Africa. Specifically, the minister said that the engagement was to shape their minds and opinion on the true position of insurgency in the North East, farmers/herdsmen clash and the achievements recorded by the Buhari administration, which were being downplayed.

Media mogul, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, and his Daar Investment and Holdings Company Limited, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday that they are not the launderer of the N2.1bn as alleged in their ongoing trial; but the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), who paid the funds to them in 2015. They spoke through their lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), while arguing their no-case submission which they filed after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission closed case against them with the 14th prosecution witness on May 28, 2018.
EFCC Quizzes Abia Finance Commissioner, 4 Ministry Officials Over Alleged Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced investigation into alleged financial misappropriation involving at least five officials of the Ministry of Finance in Abia. The state’s Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi, made the disclosure on Friday in Umuahia during a joint news briefing with the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Obinna Oriaku, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Enyinnaya Appolos, and Dr. Moses Orji, a media aide to the governor. The commissioner said that the anti-graft probe was prompted by a petition from a commissioner in the state Civil Service Commission, Mr Guy Okite.
Ogoni Clean-Up: Group Advocates Capacity Development For Youth
Dr Young Nkpah, the President, National Youth Council of Ogoni, has called for robust capacity development for Ogoni youths as part of the environmental clean-up programme in the area. Nkpah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Port Harcourt that it would be unfair to implement the United Nations Environment Pollution (UNEP) report on Ogoni land without a youth development programme. “The Ogoni youth has become hugely affected by the pollution in the land; an average Ogoni youth requires being developed and redirected.“As inhabitants of Ogoni land, we are products of the Ogoni environment; we cannot claim to be clean when our environment is polluted.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on Friday approved the qualification of Nigeria’s U-19 boys national team to the World Championship in Tunisia in 2019. The FIVB Vice-President, Dr Amr Elwani, confirmed the participation in a letter to the President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimrod. 6 Dead In Fire At Rohingya Camp In Myanmar
Six Rohingya were killed early Friday after a blaze tore through an overcrowded camp for the persecuted minority in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, the local fire service said. Global attention has focused on the 720,000 Rohingya Muslims forced from the state’s north into Bangladesh last year by a brutal military crackdown. British former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, a leading anti-Brexit advocate, said on Friday he would be starting a job at Facebook, as the US giant faces up to regulatory pressures. “I am delighted to be joining Facebook. After almost 20 years in European and British politics, this is an exciting new adventure for me,” Clegg wrote on his Facebook page. Clegg said Facebook was “at the heart of some of the most complex and difficult questions we face” such as “privacy of the individual”, “integrity of our democratic process”, and “the balance between free speech and prohibited content”.
