Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, has debunked rumours making the rounds that she has resigned from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government in preparation for her quest to be the governor of Taraba State.
Mama Taraba, as the minister is fondly called, was reported to have resigned from the government on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, as she is set to run for the position she lost to Governor Darius Ishiaku but she has come out to deny any of such.
Speaking on telephone with the News Agency of Nigeria, Alhassan says she has not resigned her position as a minister in the Buhari government or as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
“I have not resigned from the President Buhari government contrary to insinuations, especially in the social media.
I only sought for permission from President Muhammdu Buhari to begin consultations. This is preparatory to my seeking nomination from our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), to contest for the office of the governor of Taraba State in 2019, which he has graciously accepted,
The letter in circulation in the social media does not in any way mean or suggest resignation. The letter is straightforward and unambiguous.
Our esteemed supporters and loyal party men and women in Taraba should please disregard any rumour of my resignation.
When the time comes for me to resign, I will do so in accordance with the laid down procedure and regulations.”
