Alison-Madueke released on bail

Nigeria’s former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has been granted bail after several hours in custody in London.

Alison-Madueke was arrested by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) on suspicion of bribery and corruption offences on Friday, a source revealed.

Alison-Madueke was Minister of Petroleum Resources from 2010 until May 2015, a period marked with allegations of missing public funds and fraud.

In a sign that the arrest had been coordinated with Nigerian authorities, the financial crimes unit sealed one of Alison-Madueke’s houses in the upmarket Asokoro district in the capital Abuja, two security officials said.
