Aliyu, Mimiko, Fayose, others shun meeting with Jonathan
Governor Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina) and Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti) yesterday shunned a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum with President Goodluck Jonathan.
The forum’s chairman and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, said some of the PDP gover?nors could not make it to the meeting because the notice was short. Read more
Again, court restrains AIT from airing Tinubu’s documentary
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, presided over by Justice Iyabo Akinkugbe, on Wednesday granted an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the African Independent Television (AIT), from further airing a documentary on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice Akinkugbe granted the order while ruling on an application brought before the court by Chief Wole Olanipekun, Tinubu’s counsel. Read more
Nigeria Will Be Polio-Free in October’
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr Yewande Adeshina has said that Nigeria will be polio-free by October this year and everyone must put in his/her best to making it happen.
Adeshina spoke at the commencement of the first round of 2015 National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) at the Ikeja Local Government Area in Lagos recently. Read more
Ikepe Ekong Slams Uncommitted Super Eagles Players
Former Super Eagles midfielder Prince Ikpe Ekong has slammed the present crop of Super Eagles players, and says they are not committed enough to play for Nigeria.

The senatorial candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra South Senatorial district in last Saturday’s election, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to issue Certificate of Return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)candidate in the election, Senator Andy Uba insisting that he actually won that election.
Addressing journalists at Oraifite in Ekwusigo local government area, Ndukwe, former Deputy Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC), said that from polling units results (Forms EC8A1) it was clear that he, Ndukwe, won overwhelmingly. Read more
China blasts Google security move as ‘unacceptable’
Chinese cyberspace bureau on Thursday denounced Google for deciding not to recognise the agency’s authority after a Beijing-linked security breach, calling the US Internet giant’s action “unacceptable and unintelligible”.
The reprimand from the China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC) came after Google said the agency was implicated in an online security vulnerability and the firm was revoking its trust in its Internet certificates. Read more
Students held hostage in Kenya university attack
Masked gunmen have attacked a university in the town of Garissa in northeast Kenya, police said, as ongoing gunfire could be heard from the university premises.
Witnesses said explosion and heavy gunfire rocked Garissa University College early on Thursday as the gunmen stormed the complex. Ambulances were seen driving injured students to local hospitals. Read more
Suicide blast kills at least 13 in east Afghanistan
A suicide bomber Thursday killed at least 13 people and wounded around 40 others, including a prominent Afghan lawmaker, in an explosion near an anti-corruption protest outside the complex housing the governor of eastern Khost province, officials said.
“Thirteen dead bodies and 39 wounded people were brought to hospital,” Aminullah Khan, a doctor at the government hospital in Khost city, the capital of the province which borders Pakistan, told AFP. Read more
SON demands release of National Action Plan on climate change
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has called on the Federal government to release the National Action Plan on climate change as soon as possible.
The Deputy Director, Training Information Management System, SON, Dr Justin Nickaf, who made this call, said the National Action Plan on climate change needs to be released by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as soon as possible, adding that, the plan will outline the missions of the nation including National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE). Pakistan calls parliament session to discuss Yemen crisis Monday
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday called for a joint session of parliament to consider whether to join the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen.
For six days, a Saudi-led coalition has bombed Iran-allied Houthi fighters and army units fighting against Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, whose last bastion in the southern city of Aden was heavily shelled overnight. Read more

A former Greek defence minister’s wife, jailed for corruption, has escaped from a psychiatric hospital where she was serving her sentence.

Al-Qaeda frees 300 inmates from Yemeni jail
Security officials say al-Qaeda militants in Yemen have stormed the center of the coastal city of al-Mukalla and freed about 300 inmates, including scores of militants, and that Shiite rebels have fought their way into the heart of Aden to the west.
The officials say al-Qaeda militants were deployed on Thursday across major roads leading into al-Mukalla in an apparent bid to thwart any attempt to retake the city. Read more
