Blood and tears will no longer flow at Anthony Village thanks to Governor Ambode who approved the construction of an over head bridge at the Anthony Oke bus stop area on the Apapa – Oworonsoki express way.
The bridge which is nearing completion has been well received by residents of Anthony village in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State who have been effusive in expressing their gratitude to the Lagos State government for siting a pedestrian bridge in the community especially at the spot where lives are lost regularly to hit and run drivers who knock down people crossing the Gbagada/Oshodi Expressway.
According to a resident, “the new bridge is the biggest thing that has happened to Anthony village because countless lives have been lost to careless motorists around Anthony Oke Bus stop of the express way.”
Before work began about four months ago, sabinews.com learnt that the state government co nvened a stakeholders meeting which had royal fathers, community leaders, prominent residents as well as representatives of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation ( LSPWC) and the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) in attendance. Discussions at the meeting centred on the exact location of the bridge.
Sabinews learnt that construction of the bridge which is being handled by Construction giant Julius Berger, began in late February of this year, and was scheduled to be completed six months in spite of a court case that has arisen from the siting of the bridge.
