Atiku Bombs Buhari Over Travel Ban
The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sunday lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for banning fifty (50) prominent Nigerians from travelling outside the country. In a statement obtained by Thecable, issued on his behalf by his campaign organization, Atiku averred that the ban was ‘a throwback to Buhari’s evil Decree Number Two of 1984 which criminalised truth telling if it did not please Buhari, proving that dictators can grow old, but they can’t grow into democrats.’
Fayose: I’m Ready for EFCC’s Invitation
The outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, Sunday said he is ready to honour at one call should there be any invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Fayose, who stated this at the Akure Airport in Ondo State enroute Abuja, added that he was going to Abuja to avoid all insinuations that he would run away from the country through any available route whenever he leaves office as the governor of Ekiti State.
Withdraw Travel Ban on 50 Vips, Falana, Access To Justice Tell Buhari
Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), and a civil society group, Access to Justice, on Sunday faulted the travel ban placed on about 50 prominent Nigerians by the Federal Government which claimed to be fully implementing the Executive Order 6 recently issued by President Muhammadu Buhari. Falana in a statement asked the President to immediately withdraw the travel ban, but Access to Justice called for the total cancellation of the entire PEO6, which it argued “is unquestionably anti-democratic and a veiled snare for citizens’ rights”.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths (Worldwide) has commended the PDP presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubaka, for choosing an Igbo son as the vice presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections. The commendation was given through a statement issued in Owerri on Sunday by its Acting National President, Dr. Kingsley Dozie; and Emeka Odom, its Assistant National Legal Adviser. It said that assistance of Igbo youths would be made available to the PDP, having chosen Dr. Peter Obi as its presidential running mate.
I’ll Always Be with You, Fayose Promises Residents as He Leaves Ekiti
The outgoing Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has promised to always be with the people. He also urged them to trust in God for a better future for him and the state. T he governor said this during a thanksgiving service held in his honour at the Government House chapel on Sunday morning, after which he traveled out of the state. And, as Fayose left the state on Sunday afternoon, residents trooped out, hailing him in an emotional farewell.
C’River APC Accuses Minister of Working for Ayade’s Re-election
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, has been accused by some stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State of working towards the election of Governor Ben Ayade of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for a second term in 2019. Though Usani is a claimant to the governorship ticket of the APC, stakeholders of the party from the 18 local government areas of the state have complained that the minister was deliberately working against the party, and the possible victory of the party’s authentic and recognised governorship candidate, Senator John Owan-Enoh, at the 2019 governorship election.
BPE Sets Dec 2019 for Final Performance Review of Discos
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has announced December 31, 2019 as the final performance review date of 10 of the 11 electricity distribution companies (Discos) in the country, with the exception of Kaduna Disco. The BPE Director General, Mr. Alex Okoh, who made the disclosure in a press statement, said the relevant agencies of government are conducting a periodic review of the performance of the Discos under the management of the core investors with a view to evaluating the achievement of the terms of covenants agreed with the federal government well ahead of the December 2019 dateline.
2 Days After Pipeline Explosion, Abia Community Alleges Fresh Fuel Leakage
Two days after the pipeline explosion that claimed many lives in two communities in Abia State, residents of one of the communities have raised the alarm over another leaking pipeline in the area. The leakage was detected in Umuaduru village in Osisoma Local Goverment Area, with premium motor spirit (petrol) said to be currently gushing out. The Public Relations Officer of Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress, Nwabueze Princewill, said the group had contacted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on it, and they are awaiting response from them.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the finals of the 2018 Lagos Open Championship held at the Lawn Tennis Club in Onikan, Lagos, said the State Government has held talks with the State’s Lawn Tennis Association to open up an academy with state-of-the-art facilities that would attract world class players in future competitions.

Coach Gernot Rohr of Super Eagles has said that the 4-0 routing of the Mediterranean Knights of Libya by his team in Uyo is due to excellent preparation and mentality to win. Rohr told sports journalists at a post match briefing at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, that he knew his opponent was a strong side to be tackled with strength and vigour. He said that the Nigerian team won the game because it played well, adding that the four goals were scored not by chance but because the Super Eagles “worked for the victory”.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has called out Floyd Mayweather in the hope he can do what Conor McGregor failed to do, saying “in the jungle there is only one king”. The Russian fighter beat McGregor by tap-out, extending his MMA record to 27-0, but his future with UFC looks uncertain after he jumped out the ring and attacked the Irishman’s camp in the aftermath of their clash. Bale Withdraws From Wales Squad to Rest Groin Injury
Gareth Bale will miss Wales’ Nations League clash against the Republic of Ireland after the Real Madrid star returned to Spain to continue his recovery from a groin injury. Bale was sidelined for Wales’ 4-1 friendly defeat against Spain in Cardiff on Thursday after aggravating the groin injury while playing for Real against Alaves a week ago. The 29-year-old had hoped to recover for his country’s trip to Dublin on Tuesday, but Wales manager Ryan Giggs had already admitted he didn’t expect the forward to be back in time. A post on the national team’s Twitter account read: “Gareth Bale has returned to his club this afternoon and will not travel to Dublin with the rest of the squad.”
Jared Kushner Paid ‘Little or No’ Income Tax for Years
Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a senior White House adviser, likely paid little or no federal income taxes between 2009 and 2016, the New York Times has reported. Citing confidential financial documents, the paper said they show the use of a tax benefit known as depreciation that lets real estate investors deduct part of the cost of their properties from their taxable income. Although nothing in the documents suggests Kushner broke the law, it sheds further light on how the President and members of his inner circle go to great lengths to enrich themselves at the expense of the US taxpayer.
UK, France, Germany Demand ‘Credible Investigation’ Into Missing Saudi Journalist
A “credible investigation to establish the truth” into what happened to a missing journalist has been demanded by Britain, France and Germany. The joint statement encourages a Saudi-Turkish effort to find out what happened, and, if relevant, to identify those responsible for the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, and ensure they are held to account. Mr Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi regime, has been missing since he entered the country’s consulate in Turkey on 2 October. Turkish officials say he was killed and dismembered inside the building by a 15-member Saudi “assassination squad” and say they have evidence to support their claims.
