The Nigerian female national team, the Super Falcons, bounced back from a disappointing opening-day defeat against South Africa in the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) by thrashing the Shepolopolo of Zambia 4-0 on Wednesday at Cape Coast in Ghana.
This result sends the defending champions to the top of the group’s table albeit temporarily pending the result between South Africa and Equatorial Guinea.
Desire Oparanozie gave the Nigerians the lead in the first half with the scores at 1-0 at the end of the first period.
Francesca Ordega added the second goal minutes into the second half while Oparanozie soon added another goal to make it 3-0.
Substitute Amarachi Okoronkwo put the icing on the cake to make it 4-0.
The Falcons will now take on Equatorial Guinea in their final group phase match on Saturday, while the Shepolopolo face South Africa on the same day.
The group’s top two teams will advance to the semi-finals.
