Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and the Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare, are meeting behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential Villa, Abuja. Pastor Bakare and Mrs. Adeosun, arrived at the Villa heading towards the President’s office about 2.30pm on Friday after the weekky juma’at service at State House Mosque. Dressed in white flowing gown (agbada), Pastor Bakare who is a rare visitor to the Villa was clutching a black bag while walking side by side with the minister who engaged him in a discussion. Recall that the former running mate to Buhari as then presidential candidate under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), had recently chastised the president over the worsening economic and security situation in the country. Ekiti Poll: APC justifies deployment of 30,000 policemen (Nation)

All Progressives Congress (APC) says the deployment of 30,000 police officers to Ekiti is necessary to ensure peace and order during the governorship election in the state on Saturday. The party stated its position in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abudullahi, in Abuja on Thursday. The party’s position was in response to claims by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that the policemen were deployed to harass its supporters to favour APC’s Governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi “As usual with elections, extra security deployment is routine to keep the peace for credible and transparent elections. Dr Elijah Aderibigbe, the Director, Irrigation and Drainage, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, has assured that the Federal Government will complete all abandoned water projects in the country. Aderibigbe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday that the step was necessary to see that previous investments in the sector would not be a waste. According to him, huge sums of money have been invested in some projects, as their completion will be beneficial to all Nigerians. FG begins IPPIS verification of civil servants (Guardian)

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, says the verification of Federal Government Employees on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) will commence on Monday, July 16. Oyo-Ita stated this while briefing newsmen on Friday in Abuja. She said that a total of 486 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with over 300,000 employees, had enrolled on the IPPIS platform. According to her, the verification was part of the implementation of the eight priority areas of the 2017 to 2020 Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP). Read more

Agbaso losses at Supreme Court (ThisDay)

Efforts by the Chief Martin Agbaso-led faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to assume leadership of the party suffered another set back as the apex court in a judgment delivered on Friday, dismissed their appeal and affirmed Chief Victor Oye as the national chairman of the party. A five man panel of the apex court in dismissing the appeal of the Chief Agbaso-led faction held that the appeal lacked merit, and consequently affirmed the decision of the lower court. The apex court, in a lead judgment delivered by Justice Sidi Bage, upheld the decision of the Enugu division of the Court of Appeal, which had on August 16, 2017, vacated the order of mandamus that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to relate with and to recognise Agbaso as the authentic National Chairman of APGA. The management of Garki Hospital, Abuja, says it did not insist on getting police report to treat Miss Angela Igwetu, a National Youth Service Corp member shot dead in Abuja on July 4.
