After weeks of speculations, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, has finally defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ortom made the announcement during a meeting with recently elected local government chairmen and councilors at the Government House in Makurdi, the state capital on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
The announcement of Ortom’s defection came a few hours after protesting youths barred him from traveling to Abuja to attend an APC reconciliation meeting convened by the party Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
This announcement has finally brought an end to months on whether Ortom will return to the PDP following a series of disagreement with several APC stalwarts in the state including his one-time political godfather, Sen. George Akume, and at the national level.
Ortom’s defection is coming a day after 15 Senators and 37 members of the House of Representatives defected en masse from the ruling party to the PDP and ADC.
