Godswill Akpabio has resigned as Senate Minority Leader

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has resigned as the Minority Leader of the Senate as he gears up to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio who has been in serious talks with APC leaders to perfect his defection plans, tendered his resignation letter dated August 4, 2018, and addressed to the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha.
The Senator who did not state any reason for the resignation, however, thanked the Senate leadership and referred to the PDP as ‘our great party, for giving him the opportunity to lead the caucus for three years.’
Akpabio who represents Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district in the Senate is all but set to move to the APC after he was pictured while visiting President Muhammadu Buhari in London and also visiting APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Bourdillon, Lagos home.
Insiders are of the view that Akpabio has been promised the Senate President position if Senate President Bukola Saraki is removed following his own defection to the PDP from the APC.
