A day after he was arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Apo, Abuja, for allegedly attempting suicide, Senator Dino Melaye has reportedly been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
Melaye representing Kogi West district in the Senate, according to reports from Channels TV, was abducted by the suspected gunmen in Gwagwalada, a suburb of Abuja.
A colleague in the Senate, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce who represents Bayelsa East, disclosed the abduction of the controversial Melaye via his Twitter handle.
Murray-Bruce wrote that he got the information from Melaye’s brother, Moses Melaye, who informed that the lawmaker was reportedly kidnapped this morning after the gunmen attacked them on their way to Kogi State.
Read what Murray-Bruce posted:
“I have just been informed by Moses Melaye, @dino_melaye’s brother, that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. Let’s be on the watch out. Will keep you updated.”
An associate of the abducted lawmaker who witnessed the incident, Musa Shuaibu, told reporters that he was abducted along the Abuja-Lokoja Highway.
“As we speak, his (Melaye’s) whereabouts is unknown. Nigerians must come to his rescue,” Shuaibu said.
Recall that Melaye was one of the frontline Senators who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a few days ago and a day later, was arraigned in court for allegedly trying to commit suicide some months back.
