Reports coming out from the National Assembly indicates that Senators loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari have moved their sitting to a hotel to perfect their plans to impeach the Senate leadership outside the National Assembly premises.
Insiders say that some of them are said to be convening at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja to carry out the plot to oust Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
A Senator who spoke on the condition of anonymity was quoted as saying:
“The Senators loyal to the government are now convening in Sheraton Hotel where the illegal impeachment exercise will be commencing. You can quote me on this.”
Since his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saraki has been under intense pressure to resign his position as Senate President with threats of impeachment hanging on him and his deputy.
There have also been schemes and grand plans to impeach them or forcefully sack them from the positions and the whole shenanigan came to a head when operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), reportedly laid siege to the National Assembly complex this morning, stopping lawmakers, staff and journalists from gaining entry into the assembly.
The DSS operatives allegedly claimed they were acting on orders from above. It was gathered that most of the lawmakers who were stopped from gaining entry into the complex were those of the PDP while none of the APC lawmakers was been seen at the complex, giving credence to the allegation that they are meeting in an Abuja hotel.
