Buhari meets former VP Namadi Sambo in Aso Rock (Guardian)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met behind closed doors with former Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting, which took place in the president’s office, lasted for less than an hour. Sambo, however, declined comment on the outcome of his meeting, saying that it was a private visit. It would be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on February 2, 2016, raided an office complex in Abuja belonging to Sambo. Read more

A former President, Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo lied over claims that the Jonathan administration embezzled some funds a few weeks to the 2015 general elections. Mr. Jonathan’s reaction was contained in a statement by his former spokesperson, Reno Omokri. The former president told Premium Times he stood by that response. Mr. Osinbajo had on Monday said N100 billion and a separate $289 million were embezzled by officials of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, a few weeks to the 2015 elections. The vice president, who made this revelation while speaking at the 7th Quarterly Business Forum (QBF) held at the State House, Abuja, said the economic woes being faced by Nigerians today were caused by the corruption of the former administration. Reveal the running costs for Buhari, Osinbajo, ministers, Okupe dares Sagay (Punch)

Former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has challenged the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, to carry out his threat to reveal details of the running costs of the principal officers of the National Assembly. He, however, added that Sagay should also include that of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, ministers, special advisers to the President, and other top government functionaries, including himself. Okupe, in a statement on Tuesday, also said failure by Sagay to give correct figures of the running costs of all top members of the Buhari government and the leadership of the federal parliament within 24 hours will affect his credibility. President Buhari salutes Putin on Re-Election (NTA)

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement in Abuja. Buhari’s congratulatory message was contained in a letter on behalf of himself, the government and people of Nigeria. He noted that Putin’s “success for the fourth time in the election is a clear testimony of the confidence” Russians have in his leadership. The president also urged his Russian counterpart to “see this victory as a base to continue to promote international peace and stability.” Read more

Buhari congratulates German chancellor, Merkel, on her re-election (Punch)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday congratulated German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, on her re-election for another term. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement said Buhari has conveyed his congratulatory message to Merkel in a letter. Adesina quoted the President as saying in the letter that he was “most delighted to learn of the successful conclusion of the inter-party negotiations to form a new government after the last election in Germany.” Read more

Senate suspends plenary in honour of late Wakili (SUN)

The Senate on Tuesday suspended plenary in honour of its late member, Sen. Ali Wakili, who died on Saturday. Until his death, Wakili, 58, represented Bauchi South Senatorial District in the Red Chamber and was Chairman, Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare. Leader of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, who moved a motion for suspension of plenary, said that the demise of the lawmaker was a sad incident for the senate. “It is also a sad incident for his senatorial district that he represented so well and for the entire country as well as development of democracy in the country. The Coalition of Civil Society Groups against Terrorism in Nigeria has called on international rights organization, Amnesty International, to desist from what it described as its judgmental reports on the security situation in the troubled North eastern part of the country. The group in a statement issued today in Lagos and jointly signed by its Convener and Registrar, Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji and Atani John respectively, described the recent statement credited to the Right Group, where it said “Nigerian Security Forces ignored warnings about Boko Haram attack on Dapchi” as totally undeserving and a joke taken too far by Amnesty International, at the expense of Nigeria’s Internal Security and sovereignty. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said the state Procurement Law was enacted in 2016 to entrench prudence in the management of state resources and gain additional value for money spent. The governor said the law was also meant to guide and assess Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), including local governments, to ensure judicious use of public funds. Governor Okowa spoke, in Asaba, on Tuesday, while declaring open a two-day sensitisation workshop for top level public servants on the new public procurement regime in the state. Represented by one of his special advisers Okowa said the governed in the state have been feeling short-changed by the cost of public service delivery, hence, there is the need for honest services from those entrusted with power through a thorough procurement process. Governor Samuel Ortom has stated that he lacked the powers to reverse or make adjustments to the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition Law which was enacted last May in the state but came into effect on November 1. He explained that the law which was made collectively by the people of the state was made for the collectively interest of both farmers and herders alike. AKISIEC Boss warns A’Ibom Residents against Multiple Registrations (ThisDay)

The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak, has advised residents of the state to refrain from multiple registrations in the ongoing continuous voter registration in the state. Ikoiwak gave the warning on Tuesday in Ibiono Ibom Local Government area of the state while addressing a stakeholders’ forum on the continuous voter registration and collection of permanent voter cards (PVCs). Imo Assembly urges governor to equip schools (Nation)

The Imo House of Assembly on Tuesday resolved to urge Gov. Rochas Okorocha to equip select schools in every local government area with tools for technical education and skill acquisition. The House made the resolution following votes in favour of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Mrs Uju Onwudiwe (Njaba APC). The motion was titled “Motion to urge the Imo Governor to urgently equip select secondary schools in every local government area in Imo State with tools for technical education and skill acquisition”. JAMB releases more results, blind candidates sit for test (SUN)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), West Africa’s examination governing body for admissions into higher institutions, says that it is releasing the final batch of 2018 UTME’s results Tuesday afternoon. “All results will be uploaded at 2pm,” said Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s head of information in an interview with online news source Daily Post on Monday. The first batch of results were released Monday amid reports by the examination body that it had cancelled results from Computer Based Test Centres colluding with candidates to engage in malpractice and threatening JAMB officials. JAMB says these activities were caught on CCTV. Read more

Anambra warns against unauthorized use of Ekwueme Square (Nation)

The Anambra State Government said that its attention has been drawn  to illegal use of  Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka and called on the defaulters to stop forthwith. Mr. Daniel Ezeanwu, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government gave the warning made the call in an interview with the News men on Tuesday in Awka. Iheme Faith Uloma, aka Ifu Ennada, evicted contestant in the ongoing reality TV show, BBNaija “Double Wahala,’’ says she was raped and infected with a Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD). Ifu Ennada, who is also an actress, content producer, TV host and fitness entrepreneur took to her instagram handle, @ifuennada on Tuesday to make the revelation citing an unnamed personality in the entertainment industry as the rapist. Police fighting cultism frontally in Bayelsa – CP (Nation)

The Police Command in Bayelsa says it is fighting cultism in the state headlong with the collaboration of other security agencies. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Don Awunah made the disclosure in an interview with the News men on Tuesday in Abuja. “The police, the state Government and other security agencies are fighting it frontally,’’ he said. The commissioner noted that, generally, the state was peaceful as it ranked the lowest among states in the country within the National crime index. “Bayelsa generally is a very peaceful state. Taraba Police arrest 13-man robbery syndicate (SUN)

The Taraba State police command, on Tuesday, paraded a 13-man armed robbery syndicate that specialises in terrorising business owners and homes within the Jalingo metropolis. The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP David Misal, who paraded the criminals and weapons recovered from them, said that the gang was headed by Usman Bello who hails from Gombe State. RRS arrests killers of Taxify driver (Nation)

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad ( RRS ) have arrested two suspected members of a car snatching syndicate over alleged murder of a Taxify driver, Godfrey Ovie. The suspects, Simon Tyozemda (27) and Lucky Friday (24), who were arrested on March 14, were paraded on Tuesday by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal. It was gathered that the suspects killed the driver last month along Badore Road, Ajah, after booking a ride at about 2:00 a.m. They snatched his Toyota Corolla car marked FST663EZ, which he used for Taxify.  Read more

Father is suing Boy Scouts of America after his son with Down syndrome is rejected and stripped of badges (Independent)

The father of a boy with Down syndrome is suing the Boy Scouts of America after his son was banned from becoming an Eagle Scout and stripped of his badges. Logan Blythe, 15, from Utah, enrolled in the Boy Scouts after-school program three years ago after his parents confirmed with the Utah National Park Council that Logan would be accommodated and able to fully participate in the program. According to his father, Chad, Logan was awarded a variety of merit badges over the years and was elated to be part of the group. Read more
