Police deploy Mobile Units, Investigative Team, Armoured Carrier to Kwara, Taraba (ThisDay)

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Sunday said it has deployed its mobile force units, investigative teams and armoured personnel carriers in Kwara and Taraba States to continue with the investigation of robbery attacks on Offa, Kwara State and the recent killings in Taraba State. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, concerned with the banks robbery attack in Offa, Kwara State on Thursday, 5th April, 2018 and the recent killings on 4th & 7thApril, 2018 in Donga and Bali Local Government Areas of Taraba State that resulted in the loss of innocent lives, carting away of huge sums of money and destruction of properties worth millions of naira in the two (2) states, the IGP has ordered deployment of three (3) Police Mobile Force Units, high powered police investigation team, Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) with Ten (10) Crew members and Anti-Robbery equipment to Kwara State and three (3) additional Police Mobile Force units to Taraba State to beef up security in the two (2) states, prevent further attacks, arrest perpetrators and carry out discreet investigation into the Offa banks robbery in Kwara State and recent killings in Donga and Bali LGAs of Taraba State. Buhari returns to Abuja from Daura (PremiumTimes)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday returned to Abuja after a 3-day private visit to his country home in Daura in Katsina State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidential aircraft carrying the president and some of his aides took off from the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, at about 10.45 a.m. The aircraft landed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 11.28 a.m. The Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammed Bello, some security heads and other presidential aides welcomed the president at the airport. Rep. Zakari Mohammed, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Education, has assured that the country’s 2018 budget would by end of April. Mohammed told newsmen in Ogbomoso on the sideline of an empowerment programme organised by Rep. Segun Ogunwuyi (APC-Ogbomoso North/South/Oriire) for his constituents. President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has appointed a former lawmaker who represented Taraba North Senatorial District, Senator Danladi Abubakar, as his Special Adviser on Special Duties. A statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, said the appointment was with immediate effect. NNPC’s financial statements up to date, says official (Vanguard)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said on Sunday that it had updated its outstanding audit of the group financial statements from 2011 to 2016. NNPC Spokesman, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, said in a statement in Abuja that the audited backlog had since been approved by the board of the corporation in line with the laws governing its operations. He quoted Mr Isiaka AbdulRazaq, Chief Financial Officer/Group Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, NNPC, as saying that the presentation of the audited financial statements would help foster better relationship between NNPC and stakeholders. Wife of Udom Emmanuel builds 24 houses for widows (Guardian)

The wife of the governor of Akwa Ibom, Mrs Martha Emmanuel, has built and furnished 24 bungalow houses for widows and widowers in the state since 2015. Mrs Emmanuel disclosed this during the maiden edition of Eket Women’s Day Celebration in Eket Local Government Area of the state on Saturday. She said that the houses were built and furnished through the Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Initiative (FEYReP), her pet project. Several dead as vehicle hits pedestrians in Germany (Skynews)

German police have confirmed at least three people are dead and dozens injured around the Kiepenkerl statue in Munster’s old town. Citizens have been advised to avoid the area. According to local media, a small truck drove into a seated group of people at a restaurant and there are unconfirmed reports that the driver might among the dead. Germany van attack: Gunman had run-ins with the law (Skynews)

A man who killed two people after he drove a van into a crowd in Germany before taking his own life was already known to police. He was previously accused of fraud and a hit-and-run as well as making threats and damaging property – but all charges were dismissed. The 48-year-old German man, believed to be the sole perpetrator in Saturday’s attack, has been identified as Jens R, who was reportedly an industrial designer. Police are focusing on his apparent mental health problems as they investigate the incident. The attacker had vaguely announced his suicide plans a week ago in an email to friends, it is claimed, but police would not confirm this. Read more
