Buhari to investigate political assassinations, kidnappings
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said all cases of political assassinations, intimidation and kidnappings in the country will be thoroughly investigated and perpetrators speedily brought to justice, irrespective of their political affiliations.
He gave the assurance while addressing state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a parley in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Read more
Why we don’t want Zakari as INEC boss – PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party has said that it will continue to demand the removal of the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Amina Zakari.
It said this was the position taken by the party at the meeting of members of the National Working Committee, despite what it described as unwarranted attacks on its officials by the Presidency. The meeting was held in Abuja at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday. Read more
We will tame Boko Haram says Army Chief
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Kenneth Minimah, on Saturday said the Nigerian Army would tame the Boko Haram terrorists and restore peace to the North East region of the country.
The Army Chief made the commitment at the passing out parade of Direct Short Service Commission Course 22/2015, held at the Nigeria Army School of Infantry, Jaji, Kaduna State. He said that the insurgents “have been seriously degraded”, and pledged that the army would not relent until it ensures peace and stability in the region. Read more
Buhari promises to reopen cases of political assassination
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday promised that his administration will ensure that all cases of political assassination, intimidation and kidnappings in the country are thoroughly investigated.
This, he said, would be done with a view to ensuring that the perpetrators are speedily brought to justice, irrespective of their political affiliation.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, quoted the President as making the promise while addressing state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, who visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Read more
Buhari To Commission Yobe Investment House
Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, on Saturday, July 4, 2015, said that President Muhammadu Buhari would soon commission the N2 billion Yobe Investment House in Abuja.
The disclosed this during his final inspection visit to the project.

Nigerian troops recover vehicle loaded with IEDs
The Defence Headquarters on Saturday said a jeep full of Improvised Explosives Devices was among the weapons recovered by troops conducting Cordon and Search Operations after suicide bombing attacks on Zabarmari Muna, near Maiduguri.

Boko Haram kills nearly 200 in 48 hours – Militants unleash female suicide bombers North East Nigeria
Boko Haram carried out a fresh wave of massacres in northeastern Nigeria on Friday, locals said, killing nearly 200 people in 48 hours of violence President Muhammadu Buhari blasted as “inhuman and barbaric”. The militants have staged multiple attacks across restive Borno state since Wednesday, gunning down worshippers at evening Ramadan prayers, shooting women in their homes, and dragging men from their beds in the dead of night.
A young female suicide bomber also killed 12 worshippers when she blew herself up in a mosque in Borno. While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, Boko Haram has used both men and young women and girls as human bombs in the past. And as night fell, Nigerian troops battled “hordes of Boko Haram gunmen” who seemed set on attacking the state capital Maiduguri, the birthplace of the extremist Islamist movement. Read more

UNIOSUN: Registrar, bursar ask Aregbesola to reverse appointment termination
The registrar and the bursar of the Osun State University, Dr. Julius Faniran and Bayo Lasisi, whose appointments were terminated following the recommendations of the Visitation Panel to the institution have asked Governor Rauf Aregbesola to reinstate them.
The duo in a letter written to the governor and jointly signed, faulted the panel headed by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola for recommending their sacking. Read more
Kano Governor Tasks Labour on Housing for Workers
Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has tasked labour unions in the state to join hands with his administration towards evolving a realistic housing scheme for the workers.
He lamented that so far, a sustainable housing scheme for the workers had not been realized despite their immense contribution to the development of the state.
Speaking during the Ramadan Iftar organized for members of the state branch of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the Government House, Kano, the governor said it was high time workers got permanent shelter for their families. Read more

The Police Command in Delta has said that it rescued a housewife abducted on June 30 in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

How Landlord, Children Killed Tenant In Anambra Community
One person has been confirmed dead and several others injured while about five houses have been burnt at Nkpor, near Onitsha in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State when a landlord allegedly collaborated with his two children to kill a tenant over non-payment of electricity bill from Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), formally Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) on July 3, 2015.
The death of the tenant identified as David attracted a mob, which quickly burnt down the landlord’s houses. Read more
Teen hangs herself after parents refuse to build toilet
An Indian teenager, Khusboo Kumari, 17, committed suicide because her parents refused to build a toilet in the house, police said on Saturday.
“It seems she had repeatedly asked her parents to build a toilet in the house as she was embarrassed to go out to the fields to defecate, but they ignored her.
“Kumari was found hanging Friday inside her home on the outskirts of Dumka town in the eastern state of Jharkhand,’’ superintendent of police Vipul Shukla, was quoted as saying. Read more
Sanusi urges Muslims to embrace modernity
The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Saturday urged Muslims in the North to adopt new approaches to address the social, economic and political challenges facing them.
Sanusi gave the advice in Kaduna at the 10th Annual Ramadan Lecture organised by VON, FRCN and NTA, with the theme: The Challenges of Muslim Ummah in the 21st Century.
He said that the region’s failure to invest in quality education and scholarship was partly responsible for its backwardness and rise of divisive groups like the Boko Haram. Read more
NDDC Donates 500-Bed Hostel To UUTH
THE Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated a 500-bed space prototype hostel facility to medical students of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).
Speaking during the commissioning on Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the NDDC Managing Director, Bassey Dan Abia, said the gesture was in furtherance of the agency’s role to provide intervention in infrastructural development in states within the zone. Read more
I Was Not Under House Arrest By EFCC, Says Kwankwaso
A former Kano state governor, Alhaji Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso has denied that he was placed under a house arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Kwankwaso, who now represents Kano Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said contrary to reports that he had instituted an action against the EFCC in order to prevent arrest, it was some of his supporters in Kano who, on their own, sued a group for a libel. Senator asks Buhari to recognise Saraki, Dogara
The immediate past Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, on Saturday, appealed to President Mohammadu Buhari to personally wade into the National Assembly crisis with a view to resolving the impasse in the interest of the nation.
Enang, an All Progressives Congress member from Akwa Ibom, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
He noted that the election of the presiding officers officers of the Senate and House of Representatives followed due process, but urged all parties to sheath their swords and put the issue behind them. Read more
