The police have launched a manhunt for suspected kidnappers of a son of Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, who was abducted on Wednesday at the site of the proposed Edwin Clark University of Technology, Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, being sponsored by his father.
It was gathered Thursday that Clark’s son, Ebikeme, a House of Representatives aspirant, was supervising the project when he was abducted and driven away in a bus to a jetty from where he was ferried in a speedboat to an unknown destination.
However, a suspect, identified as the driver of the Audi car in which the gunmen came to the project site, was arrested by some boys in the community who later handed him over to the police.
The state police command however said yesterday that it had begun investigation into the incident and promised to track down Ebikeme’s abductors.
“The state police command is doing everything humanly possible to rescue the victim whose whereabouts was still unknown,” the state Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, said.
