Lagos actors and actresses as well as Nollywood heavy weights turned up last night in large numbers for the premiere of Code of Silence,  Emem Isong’s second directorial debut.

An anti-rape advocacy vehicle,  Code of Silence written by Bola Aduwo tells the story of Adanma,  a young and promising medical student who is raped by a local politician with near devastating consequences for all concerned.
The movie,  which features newcomer Makida Moka as the lead character Adanma has other known faces like Patience Ozokwor,  Omoni Oboli,  Amechi Muonagor, and Actor turned politician Desmond Elliot in a cameo role.
Makida Moka gives a good account of herself as the young girl who,  after suffering trauma,  sees her world fall apart.
Her exuberance and joie de vivre in the early part of the movie is convincingly real and so is her descent into darkness in the latter part.

Tall and lithe of frame, she is a commanding screen presence.

Another new comer Bimbo Peters who plays Dunni is a delight too whether talking trash or lending a strong shoulder to her bosom friend. She delivers.

Code of Silence,  produced by Royal Arts Academy in collaboration with Nollywood Workshop is a good advocacy vehicle and a timely one too for calling attention to the growing cases of sexual violence as well as the  stigmà and silence that attends it.
