Cool FM On-Air Personality, Ifedayo Olarinde popularly called Daddy Freeze, has taken a swipe at Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, the founder of Abuja-based Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) after he told students in his congregation that they must sow a seed of N500,000 so that their faiths will be released. The video of the sermon by the controversial man of God has gone viral and Daddy Fresh who has been on the warpath with Nigerian Pastors who keep asking their members to pay hefty tithes and sow humongous amounts as seeds quickly latched on to the video and posted the edited version on his Instagram page. Nigeria’s acting president Yemi Osinbajo has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, with immediate effect, overhaul the management and activities of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The order follows persistent complaints and reports on the activities of the SARS that border on allegations of human rights violations. Nigeria’s debt now N22.38tn –DMO (Punch)

The country’s debt profile now stands at N22.38tn, the Debt Management Office has said. At a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the Debt Management Office said the country’s debt stood at N22.38tn as of June 30. It also disclosed that the nation’s debt profile rose by 3.01 per cent in the last six months. The DMO attributed the increase to the $2.5bn Eurobond issued by the Federal Government in February. In a statement, the DMO said, “The Total Public Debt which encompasses the Domestic and External Debt Stock of the Federal and 36 State Governments and the Federal Capital Territory stood at N22.38 Trillion or USD73.21 billion as at June 30, 2018. Kerosene explosion burns woman, razes eight rooms in Anambra (TheNation)

A middle-aged woman on Monday night sustained severe burns all over her body following a kerosene explosion that engulfed her apartment in Awada-obosi, Anambra State. The explosion was said to have completely raised down eight rooms service quarters of the apartment, located at No. 7 Dike Ezeagu street Ugwuagba, including that of the woman. The Nation gathered that the victim, Mrs Gift Oroke, was preparing dinner at about 10 pm, after pouring alleged adulterated kerosene in her stove, when the explosion occurred, leaving her with varying degrees of burns. Army uncovers Boko Haram recruitment link on social media – Commander (Vanguard)

The Nigeria Army on Tuesday, said it had uncovered a Facebook and other social media accounts allegedly used by a faction of the Boko Haram group to recruit new members. Maj. Murtala Usman, Artillary Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, who disclosed this while speaking at the ongoing Nigerian Army Combat Support Training Week in Maiduguri, said the social media accounts had 2,000 followers. Usman said that insurgents from the Albarnawi faction of the Boko Haram group were recruiting new members on social media platforms like Facebook, Whatssap, SnapChat, Instagram and the Youtube. 12,000 Youth Shortlisted For 1,000 Jobs In Bayelsa (Saharareporters)

A total of 12,000 youths have been shortlisted to fill 1,000 positions declared vacant by the Bayelsa State Government in the State Civil Service have been shortlisted for the second phase of employment examinations. According to the State Government, more than 23,000 people applied for the jobs. Nigeria’s GT Bank sees 10 pct loan growth this year (Reuters)

Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) plans to use some of its cash deposits to help grow its loan book by 10 percent by the end of the year after credit declined in the first half, it said on Tuesday. The bank expects to boost loans to compensate for a drop in yields from treasury investments. Chief Executive Segun Agbaje said the bank could earn a yield of about 7-9 percent on loans compared with cash deposits in foreign banks earning 2 percent. The Nigerian government paid off about 840 billion naira ($2.75 billion) worth of local treasury bills in the first half of 2018 instead of rolling it over as it has done in the past, reducing the interest it paid to raise domestic debt.
