It appears the main opposition Party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party is losing its hegemony on the Southeast, as a member of the House of Representatives, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha from Abia state has moved to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The lawmaker who represents Isuikwuato/Ummunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State has not formally declared her defection on the floor of the House, she formally registered for the APC in her ward on Wednesday.
This defection is the latest to the defections rocking the PDP. A former Senator and current governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Ayogu Eze, defected to the APC on the 16th of August this year.
Onyejeocha has been representing her constituency since 2007, same with another female lawmaker from Abia Nnenna Ukeji, both are also eyeing a fouth term ticket.
However, there has been strong opposition to the fourth term agenda of the two lawmakers, mostly from the leaders of the PDP within the state.
According to source in the state chapter of the PDP, Ukeji might also move to APC to achieve her dream. The source also linked the defection to the effort of the former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu who is now a Chieftain of the APC.
