Senator Dino Melaye has been moved out of an Abuja Police Hospital by masked police officers and relocated to the medical facility of the Department of State Services in Abuja. He had been receiving medical treatment in the hospital since this week.
The embattled Senator was forced out of his hospital bed and transported out in an unmarked vehicle.
Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, disclosed that the Senator was moved from the Police Clinic after he and the police disagreed over his fitness to face trial.
Moshood also revealed that the police have obtained a warrant of arrest to detain the lawmaker for 14 days, starting from Wednesday, January 9.
He is expected to answer for his alleged involvement in the shooting of a police officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu.
Dino Melaye refused to surrender to the authorities for the incident which occurred in July 2018. Instead, he taunted the police on social media and accused them of persecution.
After a long row, and the insistence of the police to bring him in for questioning, he finally surrendered on January 4. Shortly after, he suffered an asthmatic attack and collapsed.
Dino Melaye subsequently refused to leave his hospital bed to face authorities, complaining about several medical problems even though doctors passed him fit.
The current development with the police is akin to what transpired in 2018 when the Senator was arrested for a different incident.
He ended up in the hospital after what the police described as an escape from custody, another offence he was later charged to court for.
