Edo APC caucus picks Oshiomhole as state party leader
THE Edo state caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked the immediate past governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the leader of the party in Edo state.
The decision was reached at the inaugural caucus meeting of the party since the coming of Governor Godwin Obaseki, at Government House Monday evening. Oshiomhole who addressed the leaders after the unanimous endorsement, expressed appreciation over the endorsement declaring that the performance of governor Obaseki so far in the state is an indication that the leadership of the party did not make any mistake in backing him. Why naira appreciated – CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria said the recent appreciation of the Naira against other currencies was the result of its market monitoring and intervention.
The acting Director, Corporate Communications of the CBN, Mr Isaac Okoroafor, on Thursday in Sokoto refuted the claim that the allegations by Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi on the illegal sales of foreign currencies at ridiculous rates were responsible for the change in forex policy. n Read more
Kidnap Kingpin ‘Vampire’ Killed In Rivers State
The police said today they had killed a dreaded and deadly kidnap-for-ransom kingpin, Henry Chibueze, notoriously known as “Vampire,” in Omu Awa forest, Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers state.
Police Spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said Chibueze was killed by the Police Special Forces, led by the I-G’s Intelligence Response Team at 1 a.m. on Thursday.
He said that five suspected members of the gang were also arrested and cache of arms and ammunition recovered from them. Read more
IPAC Removes Adams as Chairman
The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ondo State, Hon Fatai Adams, has been removed sequel to the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
THISDAY learnt that the decision to remove Adams, who is the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, was taken at a meeting held in Akure, the state capital. Read more
Court dissolves Emeka Ike’s marriage
A Lagos Island Customary Court, South West Nigeria today dissolved their 17 year-old marriage. The three-man panel presided over by Chief Awo Awosola, dissolved the marriage in a judgment following a petition filed by Suzanne. Other members of the panel of judges were: Mrs. Opeyemi Olanrewaju and Mr Kehinde Jacob Olayinka. Read more
Malabu $1.1 billion Scandal: EFCC files fresh corruption charges against Shell, Eni, Adoke, Etete, others
Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, EFCC, has filed fresh corruption charges against two multinational oil firms, Shell and Eni, for their roles in the Malabu $1.1 billion scandal.
The charges were filed at the FCT High Court on Thursday afternoon against the oil majors and nine other individuals and firms. Read more
Abducted Edo teachers regain freedom
Three staff of Ebomisi Secondary School, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo, who were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen have been released.
The school teachers had been reportedly abducted in Ugbogiobo village on their way home on Monday. Read more
ASUU threatens strike over payment shortfall
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Ibadan chapter, on Friday said it would embark on an industrial action if the shortfall in the payment of salaries and allowances of its members continued.
The UI chapter of the union said it would resist any attempt by the Federal Government to increase the suffering of its members due to what it described as unilateral reductions of salaries of university staff. Read more
NLNG MD says investments in gas, LNG declining
The Managing Director of the Nigerian LNG Limited, Mr. Tony Attah, has said investments in gas and Liquefied Natural Gas are declining, while also adding that the proposed amendment to the NLNG Act poses further threat, The Punch reports.
Attah spoke at the 2017 Nigeria Oil and Gas Strategic Conference and International Exhibition in Abuja where he said hopes for economic and industrial growth would be dashed if inhibitors such as the removal of legislative frameworks like the Nigeria LNG Limited Fiscal Incentives, Guarantees and Assurances Act, were permitted in the Nigerian gas industry. Xenophobic attack: NLC urges South African Govt. to arrest, prosecute perpetrators

Osinbajo, CJN disagree on corruption in Judiciary
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen on Thursday took different positions on the presence of corruption in the judiciary. While Osinbajo insisted that corruption was ubiquitous in the country including the judiciary, Onnoghen said that whether it existed it must be fought in consonance with due process and the rule of law. Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil has revealed that he had a heated bust-up with manager Jose Mourinho in the dressing room of Real Madrid during their time together at the club. The 28-year-old’s autobiography – ‘Die Magie des Spiels’ or ‘The magic of the Game’ is being serialized by German daily Bild.
According to the German, Mourinho called him a coward and a crybaby for not giving it all on the pitch. Infuriated by the allegation, Ozil threw his jersey at the Portuguese and asked him to go out and play for the team. The Telegraph has apologized to Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke for wrongly reporting that he was demanding £50,000 per week from the Premier League club before extending his contract.

The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday confirmed the friendly matches between the Super Eagles and two giants of African football, Senegal and Burkina Faso.
