Ekiti suspends 16 teachers

Worried by the report that teachers use their students as child labourers in their private farms during school hours, Ekiti state government has ordered a full scale investigation into the situation.

No fewer than 16 of such teachers at Elo High School, Ayetoro-Ekiti have been suspended pending the outcome of investigation of the matter. The State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, gave the directives in Ado-Ekiti while receiving the report of a team led by the Deputy Governor, Dr Kolapo Olusola, that went to the school for a preliminary investigation of the incident.

In a statement yesterday by the governor’s Chief Press  Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the action of the governor followed persistent complaints by concerned parents that their wards were being used as child labourers in private farms during school hours. Read more
