The Nigeria Police Force disclosed the commencement of investigations on the alleged assassination attempt on the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
Ekweremadu and his family were reported to have escaped an assassination attempt at their residence at Apo, Abuja during the early hours of Tuesday.
The Public Relations Officer of the Police, Jimoh Moshood, explained to the media that the event was a burglary and not an assassination attempt.
“Investigation so far carried out in the incident does not have any link to assassination attempt,” he said.
He also explained one of the suspects, Mohammed Yusuf, is in the custody of the police while also assisting the police with helpful information that can speed the investigations.
“The suspect has been assisting the police in the investigation into the matter. We have intensified efforts to arrest other suspects who escaped from the crime scene,” he said.
