Uba Sani, the Special Adviser on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs to Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has emerged the All Progressive Congress (APC) Kaduna Central Senatorial District candidate.
Sani defeated the sitting Senator to clinch the ticket in the state primary held at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Sports Multipurpose Hall, Kaduna, on Saturday.
Earlier, Sen. Sani in a press statement issued by his media aide, Abdulsamad Amadi had described the primary as ‘illegal’ and vowed to challenge it in court.
It would be recalled that the Senator and his governor have been at loggerheads, and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had earlier cleared Sani as the sole candidate.
However, at the primary conducted on Saturday which was boycotted by Sen. Sani, Uba Sani polled 2,088 votes to defeat the Senator who got 15 votes, with Usman Ibrahim garnering 129 votes.
Sen. Sani Saleh, who served Kaduna Central people in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, got 55 votes.
Another contestant, Shamsudeen Shehu, got six votes, while 45 votes were declared invalid.
2,383 voters were accredited from seven local government areas of the zone for the primary election
