Two fake policemen were almost lynched by residents of Odoyanta, Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping a fish farmer. Luck ran out on the criminals when a young boy and another resident saw their activities and alerted other residents and the police.

The fake policemen who claimed to be from the Igbeba Police Division of the state, attacked the fish farmer identified only as Kowope, at about 7am and asked him to “cooperate” with them, but when Kowope asked them for the ID cards, they rained blows on him, hit him with a cutlass and chained his legs.

One resident, Kazeem, who saw the kidnappers, alerted Policemen, and a young boy ran to alert other fish farmers in the area. It took the combined effort of elders of the community and some vigilantes to convince the angry mob not to lynch the kidnappers. Read more
