Fashola Denies Funding Buhari’s Campaign
Minister for Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, has denied earmarking funds for the campaign of President Buhari, in the 2019 elections. He stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Sokoto, on the sideline of the 5th retreat for top management staff of the Ministry. Reacting to a document circulating on social media about his ministry contributing money for the campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari in the next general elections, Fashola said, he will never do such. He explained that even though every election campaign needs money but not under his watch will anyone divert tax payer’s money to fund political party campaign. Fashola further explained, “we have never did and we will never do it.
Labour Shuns Meeting with FG over New Minimum Wage
Members of the Organised Labour, on Sunday, were absent at the reconciliatory meeting with the Federal Government over the non-implementation of the N30, 000 new National Minimum Wage for the workers in the country. Mr Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) said on Sunday that the meeting was part of the exercise that ought to be undertaken as part of the ongoing negotiation. He said the meeting was to ensure a complete report to be submitted to the presidency on the issues of the new National Minimum Wage.
NHIS: We are ready for probe, HMCAN tells FG
In the wake of the controversy trailing the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, the Health and Managed Care Association of Nigeria, HMCAN, has urged the Federal government to investigate activities of Health Maintenance Organizations, HMOs, in the country. The HMCAN, which is the umbrella body for all HMOs in the country, said the government should wade into the current impasse between the HMOs and the Executive Secretary of the Scheme saying such investigation would put to rest once and for all the allegations of sharp practices and misdemeanour.
Lagos APC presents Hamzat as Sanwo-Olu’s running mate
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has chosen a former Commissioner for Works in the state, Dr Femi Hamzat as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The state party leaders made the official presentation of Hamzat as Sanwo-Olu’s running mate on Sunday at the party secretariat.
NNPC – Workers’ Strike: No Need for Panic Buying of Petrol
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has assured motorists that it has adequate petroleum products that will serve the nation, irrespective of the proposed strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress. The Corporation gave the assurance in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu in Abuja on Sunday. “The corporation had 39 days petroleum products sufficiency and about 25 days products availability on land. “Motorists and other consumers of petroleum products are assured of adequate stock to meet their energy needs,’’ he said. Ughamadu further dispelled insinuations of any impending petroleum products scarcity in the country.
Amaechi rescues Kidnap Victims in Rivers
Ex-Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on Sunday afternoon rescued a kidnapped victim along the Omoku/Egbeda road in Rivers State. Amaechi made the rescue while on his way to Ubimini Community of Emohua LGA to address APC supporters. Amaechi who was leading his convoy sighted a Lexus SUV abandoned in the bush, stopped by and ordered his security team to comb the forest in search for the occupants of the vehicle. It was during the search that the security personnels in the minister’s convoy rescued one of the occupants of the Lexus Jeep. The victims were APC supporters attending the PVC sensitization rally in Ubimini where the minister was to address party supporters.
SDP – We are done with Omisore
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Atakunmosa West Local Government Council of Osun State has dumped the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the just concluded governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore. It also endorsed the Osun East senatorial candidature of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s Chief Francis Fadahunsi in the forthcoming general election. The party chairman in the area, Chief Joshua Ogunleye, made this known to newsmen on Sunday when Adenigba Fadahunsi and his team visited his home in Osun.
High Commissioner – Forged Documents for UK Visa Attract 10-Year Ban
The outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, has cautioned Nigerians seeking visas to the UK to avoid presenting forged documents. Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Mr Arkwright warned that anyone caught flouting the rule would be denied entry into the UK for at least 10 years. “I know there is a feeling in Nigeria that we refuse visas more often than we accept them. That is not the case. “We are not trying to keep Nigerians out but it is important Nigerians stick to the rules when they are there in the same way that you in Nigeria would expect British people to obey the rules here. “Sadly, there are a few Nigerians who provide forged documents. We know when a document is forged and that is an automatic 10-year ban.”
Police parades Killers of Army General, Idris Alkali
The Nigerian Police force has paraded 19 suspects allegedly involved in the brutal murder of a retired military general, Idris Alkali in Plateau State. The Plateau state police command paraded the criminals before journalists in Jos, the state capital. Terna Tyopev, the PPRO in plateau briefed newsmen on the circumstances surrounding their arrest. It will be recalled that late General Alkali was declared missing on September 3 after he had left Abuja for Bauchi via Jos but was never heard from again.
Nigeria’s Hauwa Ojeifo wins MTV EMA’s laurel in Spain
A 26-year-old Nigerian, Hauwa Ojeifo has won in the first edition of MTV Europe Music Awards’ Generation Change Award category. The award ceremony is currently going on at the Bilbao Exhibition Center, in Bilbao, Spain. Miss Ojeifo who was selected among four others was however missed on the red carpet, as she could not secure a Schengen Visa from the Spanish embassy in Nigeria to embark on the trip. Her award category was presented during the MTV EMA red carpet pre-show. The award aims to elevate and empower the fearless, original young people who are changing the world.
Brymo – You’re A Thief If You Dump Music for Politics
Nigerian singer, Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo has said musicians who “suddenly” leave their craft for politics are “thieves”. The singer stated this in an interview with Sahara TV at the recently concluded 2018 Ake Books and Arts Festival. According to Brymo, musicians have many issues to address within the entertainment industry, and should focus on that, rather than “suddenly dumping music for politics”. His words: “I think it is a very difficult move in the sense that there are years invested in every industry. So, you’ve been a musician for 10 to 15 years, and suddenly you dump that to go and become a politician and run for office. You’re just a thief, because there are issues in the entertainment industry you can take part in to fix. Why do you have to run for public office? There are things you can do as a musician in your own music industry and make things better there. If you cannot make things better there, how are you going to make things better in public office?
Eagles to Camp in Asaba for Bafana Bafana
Super Eagles will camp in Asaba ahead of their African Nations Cup qualifier game against South African on November 17 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg and the friendly with Cranes of Uganda at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba November 20. Prince Charles to Address Herdsmen Attacks During Visit –Envoy
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Arkwright, announced in Abuja on Sunday that Prince Charles would engage in peace-building activities, including addressing the persistent attacks of herdsmen on farming communities in Nigeria. The Prince of Wales and his wife, Princess Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall are expected in Nigeria from November 6 to 8 in a high profile visit during which the royals would also have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. China motorway pile-up kills at least 15 after lorry loses control at toll station
More than a dozen people have been killed in a motorway pile-up in north-western China after a lorry lost control. Dozens of others were injured after the vehicle crashed into a line of cars waiting at a toll station in Gansu province on Saturday night. Fifteen people are said to have been killed and at least 44 injured following the incident, which is currently under investigation. According to China’s Xinhua news, the lorry driver told authorities his brakes failed as he travelled down a hill towards the toll station.
