Fayose Regains Freedom, Leaves Ikoyi Prison
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Ayodele Fayose, left Ikoyi Prison, on Monday, at about 4.30pm after his bail papers had been signed by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun. The Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos State, on Wednesday, last week, granted Fayose bail but the bail conditions were met the next day without delay. According to a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, Fayose thanked the people of Nigeria for their solidarity support assuring that he would not let the people down.
Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan Did Nothing On Infrastructure – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari again on Monday tackled his predecessors in office for allegedly failing to invest in infrastructure despite the huge resources that accrued to the country under their watch. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Buhari said with the humongous resources at the disposal of Nigeria between 1999 and 2014, it was sad that infrastructure went to rot completely within the same period.
Shaku-Shaku : Osinbajo under fire from Peter Obi, Murray-Bruce
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been put to task for placing shaku-shaku dance rehearsals as a priority at a time his government has reportedly helped Nigeria become the poverty capital of the world. People’s Democratic Party, PDP vice-presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce threw the challenge in response to reports quoting the vice-president as saying that he was set to learn the in-style dancing steps, Shaku-Shaku ahead of the forthcoming election. Speaking at a book launch in Abuja at the weekend, Osinbajo had noted how a politician garnered votes through his dance steps and intimated that he was set to follow suit.

A former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, on Monday, urged Nigerians to make the right leadership choice that would reposition the country and put it on the path of greatness, come 2019. Ezekwesili, presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria gave the advice at a news conference in Lagos. She blamed most of the challenges the country was experiencing on long years of bad leadership. The presidential candidate urged citizens not to vote a leadership that would “perpetuate the cycle of despair in the country” in 2019, but one that would inspire hope.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commiserated with the family of the late Chief Tony Anenih, who died Sunday at the age of 85, describing him as a patriot and mentor to many Nigerians. Jonathan stated this in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, on Monday. He described the death as the exit of the great nationalist and founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which was a sad loss to the party and the nation. Ambode Swears In 5 New Perm Secs, Charges Them to Prioritize Efficient Service Delivery
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday swore-in five new Permanent Secretaries into the State Civil Service, with a charge on them to place high premium on efficient service delivery and work to make the machinery of governance to roll faster in the overall interest of the people. Speaking after the oath of office was administered on the appointees at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the Permanent Secretaries must bring their wealth of experience and knowledge to bear in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and go all-out to meet the high expectations of not only government but the teeming population of the State.
EFCC Seeks Final Forfeiture Of $8.4m, N9.2bn Linked To Patience Jonathan
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday moved an application seeking the final forfeiture of the sums of $8,435,788.84 and N9.2 billiion linked to Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The application was supported with an affidavit, two exhibits and a written address. Moving the application before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, the EFCC, through its counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, urged the court to grant its prayers for the final forfeiture of the various sums of money. Counsel to first respondent, Ifedayo Adedipe, told the court that he had filed a motion and a written address, which he relied on for the processes filed. He stated that the EFCC had not invited the first respondent for questioning regarding the alleged money found in her account.

Nigeria have again left out captain Mikel John Obi from next month’s crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in South Africa after they named a 23-man squad. China-based Mikel Obi, who made his Nigeria debut in 2005, has not played for the country since he captained the team to the World Cup in Russia in June. Officials have said the former Chelsea star was previously left out of the squad to allow him time to recover from niggling injuries.

Former Leicester City’s title winning boss Claudio Ranieri has reacted to the tragic demise of the Foxes’ owner and President Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. Srivaddhanaprabha was involved in a helicopter crash outside the King Power stadium following Leicester’s 1-1 draw at home to West Ham United in the Premier League. U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is considering possible actions in response to the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said on Monday. “The administration is weighing different options and we’ll make an announcement about what the decision of that action is,” Sanders told a media briefing in response to a question about what actions the administration might take against Saudi Arabia.
Venice Experiences Worst Flooding Since 2008
Venice has been inundated by an exceptional high tide which put three-quarters of the lagoon city under water. Large swathes of the rest of Italy have also experienced flooding and heavy winds which toppled trees, killing four people. Tourists and residents donned high boots to navigate the streets on Monday after strong winds raised the water level 156cm – more than 5 feet – before receding. Water levels exceeded the raised walkways normally erected in flooded areas of the city, forcing their removal. Transport officials also closed the water-bus system, except to outlying islands, due to the emergency.
‘Trump Cherishes Jewish Americans’
The White House defended US President Donald Trump from accusations by his political opponents that his rhetoric contributed to the environment that led to the massacre of 11 Jews in a Pittsburgh synagogue on Saturday. “You can’t start putting the responsibility of the individuals on anybody but the individual who carries out the crime,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a press briefing Monday. Sanders called anti-Semitism a “plague to humanity” and said the murders were “an act of hatred and above all an act of evil.”
