The weekend ended with a lot of interesting matches featuring Nigerian players and here is a review of how some of the Super Eagles fared over the weekend with their respective clubs:
Alex Iwobi’s Arsenal ended Tottenham Hotspur’s six-game winning streak with a 4-2 thrashing in a North London derby thriller – an English Premier League game, at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The game was Iwobi’s 12th game in the EPL this season.
Chelsea returned to winning ways in the English Premier League on Sunday after defeating London neighbours Fulham 2-0 without Victor Moses, for the umpteenth time, at Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old Moses who is expected to leave Chelsea in January has seen just 26 minutes of Premier League football this season for Chelsea.
WILFRED NDIDI, ISAAC SUCCESS AND KELECHI IHEANACHO
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi made his 13th EPL start for Leicester City who defeated Isaac Success’ Watford 2-0 on Saturday.
Goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison secured a comfortable win for the Foxes.
Success played the entire duration of the encounter and was yellow carded in the 85th minute.
At the John Smith Stadium, Huddersfield Town lost 2-1 at home to Leon Balogun’s Brighton Hove Albion.
Mathias Jorgensen scored in the first minute of the encounter but Sean Duffy drew Brighton level on the stroke of half-time after Steve Mounie was sent off in the 32nd minute.
Florin Andone’s header off a Solly March cross made it 2-1.
Leon Balogun came on for Bruno in the 78th minute of the win. It was Balogun’s first EPL appearance in Brighton’s last 11 games.
WILLIAM TROOST EKONG
Super Eagles defender William Troost Ekong played all 90 minutes for Udinese who shared the spoils with Sassuolo in a Serie A league game on Sunday.
It was Ekong’s 14th successive start for Udinese since he joined the club and it was the fourth clean sheet of this season for the club.
Stephen Odey scored his sixth league goal of the season for FC Zurich beat Grasshoppers 2-0 at the Letzigrund stadium.
Odey sealed his side’s win in the 84th minute after Salim Khelifi had broken the deadlock six minutes before the hour mark for the hosts FC Zurich. The goal took his tally to ten in all competitions this season.
