Barring any last minute change of plans, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio will formalize his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and there are some politicians from his state who will likely defect with him.
Insiders have been making permutations as to who will likely dump the PDP in Akwa Ibom State and move with Akpabio who is seen as a political godfather in the state with as many as 12 lawmakers in the State House of Assembly and three members of the House of Representatives from the state dumping the PDP as well as other top politicians who are loyal to the former governor.
According to political watchers in the state, Akpabio will not be the only one decamping to the APC but he will be joined in the APC by those who are most loyal to him in the decampment.
Those touted to move their camps with Akpabio include the state’sDeputy Governor, Moses Ekpo, Akpabio’s brother, Emem Akpabio, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, his nephew and longtime aide.
Akpabio who was a two-term governor of Akwa Ibom State under the aegis of the PDP became a Senator under the party he has represented for many years and his defection is set to be a huge loss to the PDP as he is considered one of the biggest and most loyal members of the party.
