The list has been trimmed as we edge closer to the unveiling of the 2018 Golden Boy.
The award, handed out by Italian newspaper Tuttosport to the most impressive young player in Europe over the previous calendar year, has been claimed by some of the best players in the world in previous seasons.
Kylian Mbappe, France and PSG forward is favourite to be named Golden Boy this time around, which would make him the first player ever to retain the award since its creation in 2003.
The 100-man longlist has been reduced to 40 names as we move ever closer to the award being handed out at the end of the year, and it features four players currently representing Premier League clubs.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Liverpool defender, is joined on the shortlist by Everton’s Tom Davies, Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot, and Phil Foden, the Manchester City midfielder.
There is also a Scottish Premiership representative, with Odsonne Edouard, who moved to Celtic permanently earlier this year, making the cut.
