Grammy Awards: Newcomer Sam Smith is the Biggest Winner

British soul singer Sam Smith, won two awards the top three categories of the Grammys: record and song of the year as well best new artist and best pop vocal album, four awards in all making him the biggest winner of the night.

“I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year,” Smith said as he accepted his gramophone-shaped trophy for record of the year. “Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys.”

Album of the year went to rocker Beck for “Morning Phase.”

Other big winners were Pharrell and Beyonce, who won three Grammys each.

US President Barrack Obama chose the Grammy spotlight to deliver a speech via a video message urging artists to help end domestic violence, saying “It’s not OK and it has to stop.”

Performances of the night were delivered by Pharrell who did “Happy”, Beyonce, Sia, Ed Sheeran, Madonna, Kanye West. Rihanna and Kanye West teamed with Sir Paul McCartney for a rendition of ‘FourFiveSeconds.’
