Nigerian Breweries, owners of the Gulder brand, are keeping the host for the 11th season of the popular game show under wraps.
At a press conference arranged to announce the commencement of the show, representatives of the company refused to divulge the personality to anchor the 2014 edition.
The secrecy fits into a pattern adopted this year by the show’s organisers following an invitation to members of press that revealed nothing about the subject of the invitation on July 1st.
Members of press converged at the Nigerian Breweries bar on the grounds of the NB headquarters to find a podium decorated with posters announcing Gulder Ultimate Search: The Mission.
Reading from a prepared speech, Edem Vindah spoke about the historical importance of July 1st: on the day in 1881, the first telephone call; and in 2013, astrologers discovered a moon on planet Neptune.
“In 2014, it is the commencement of Gulder Ultimate Search 11,” Mr Vindah declared. He was one of five men responding to questions from the press.
A brief but intense ad for GUS 11 followed featuring young men receiving scrolls from a cloaked figure summoning them to go in search of The Cube—this year’s totem to be found in the jungle of Aguleri, Anambra state.
The advert played to applause from the press and rapper 2 shotz.
Asked if the show was designed so only men win by a female journalist, the men from Nigerian Breweries said it was unintentional, adding that for the 2013 edition, “the last female standing,” Ifunanya, could have won.
And then came the question concerning the identity of the 2014 host. The men smiled, and said, members of press, like everyone else, will have to wait.
