HBO Confirms ‘Game Of Thrones’ Will End After Season 8

The end really is sight for ‘Game of Thrones’ fans. The epic fantasy drama will be coming to an end after its eight season, HBO programming president Casey Bloys has confirmed. But while the news may sound bad for fans of the show, there’s still hope for a potential spin off.

Speaking on Saturday (July 30) at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, Bloys confirmed that season eight would be the show’s last. “Yes, I think [the showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” he said. “If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons but we want to take their lead with what they could do and what the best version of the show is.” The series was recently renewed for a seventh season, which will only consist of seven episodes.

However Bloys said there’s no final decision yet on how many episodes the eight season will consist of.
