It was a show of shame after officers of the Department of State Security (DSS), reportedly took over and blocked the entrance to the National Assembly, preventing workers and members from gaining entry into the complex.
Returning lawmakers who were called for an emergency meeting by the leadership of the National Assembly were refused entrance into the premises.
Reports also indicate that the DSS operatives had taken the position since late Monday night ostensibly in preparation for the return of the lawmakers.
The Senate President Bukola Saraki had earlier recalled leadership of the National Assembly on recess for an emergency meeting and they were to meet today, Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the National Assembly before the action of the DSS.
There have been speculations and reports of a plot to impeach the leadership of the National Assembly with the aid of security operatives.
A detachment of policemen was also seen taking up strategic positions around the complex and when confronted by a serving Senator, Rafiu Ibrahim who was stopped from going in, the DSS operatives simply told him, they are there on ‘orders from above’.
