Nigerian and Kannywood actress Rahama Sadau revealed that she almost got married at the tender age of 13.

Rahama came into prominence in October 2016 following the announcement of her ban from Kannywood, that is the Hausa arm of the Nigerian movie industry. She was invited for roles in the mainstream Nollywood and she has since acted in renowned series such as Mtv series Shuga and other notable movies such as Ajuwaya, Hakkuna, Tatu, among several others.
Rahama played a role of a corps member in the Shuga series where she aided a young student through the onerous circumstances of child marriage which is seen as a tradition in the northern part of Nigeria. She elaborated that she was almost a victim of child marriage when she was merely 13, she shared:
“Some of us have been fighting against early marriage and girl child education, though it is a very sensitive issue. Whenever you talk against early child marriage, religion will definitely come in. So, it is very sensitive.
On my part, I’m trying to create awareness by sitting with parents to enlighten them. In my own case, I almost got married at the age of 13. So many things happened. But we are working on it.”

Then she further explained how she has been able to survive through the tedious practice:
“For me, I will always be grateful to my mum. She always wants us to achieve.”
