Honourable Abike Dabiri has come out to refute the front page story in a Nigerian newspaper which listed her amongst bank debtors.
The story ran under the caption: Emeka Offor, Abike Dabiri’s firms, others owe banks N143.81bn
The former lawmaker and well known journalist made the refutation via a statement she sent to www.staging.sabinews.com. In the statement Abike Dabiri states emphatically “As a very contented person, I owe nobody any money, not even myself.”
The newspaper report had claimed that Abike Dabiri and others owe “Diamond Bank Plc over N47.17bn as its total NPLs, with companies belonging to prominent Nigerians owing sizeable amounts. These include Sir Emeka Offor’s Global ScanSystem Limited, which the bank says owes N181m; a former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa’s Thriller Eneavours [sic], which owes N122m; and a former Delta State Commissioner for Sports Solomon Ogba’s Delta Mega Trend Limited, which owes N89m.”
Honourable Dabiri, however, insists that she is neither a debtor nor a Director of said company.
“I was thoroughly embarrassed to see my picture on the front page of Punch Newspaper that Thriller Endeavor Company, claiming me as a director, owes about 100 Million Naira to Diamond Bank. I know nothing about the said company, Thriller Endeavor, or its activities, as mentioned in the publication. If the company claims I am a director in the said bank, then it has definitely done so without my knowledge and without my permission. If this is the case it’s a case of fraud and will have to be brought to the attention of relevant security agencies, the bank in question, and the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
