I was ready to die for Nigeria, says Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said he was ready to pay the supreme price for Nigeria with all the benefits he has derived from the country right from his school days.
Apart from getting scholarships in school, he said he became a deputy governor, governor, vice president and president by the grace of God.
Jonathan, who noted that he was not more hardworking than other Nigerians, said that security personnel who have not gotten 0.5 percent of the benefits he derived from office, have been paying the supreme price for the country. Read more
Tony Elumelu address industrialists at the White House
Former managing director of United Bank for Africa, Mr Tony Elumelu, has been nominated to address a select group of global industrialists at the White House in U.S. to celebrate emerging entrepreneurs around the globe.
The event, a statement issued by Tony Elemelu Foundation in Lagos on Sunday said, would be hosted by U.S. President, Barack Obama, on Monday. Read more
Police Release Grandma Who Sold Daughter’s 2-Day Old Baby
Police detectives attached to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, have released a grandmother who sold her daughter’s two day-old baby for N300, 000.
Mama Oluchi was said to have been released with her husband, Papa Oluchi and a nurse who was said to be an accomplice. Read more
Investigate Chime, ex-PDP national auditor tells EFCC
A former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barr. Ray Nnaji, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, seeking the investigation of Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime, over allegations of ‘official corruption’.
A copy of the petition, which was made available to our correspondent, was dated May 5, 2015, and titled ‘Official corruption, misappropriation, embezzlement, stealing, forgery and criminal conversion against Governor Sullivan Chime and Chief Ikeje Asogwa (Enugu PDP chairman) – A clarion call for serious investigation’. Group seeks probe of Fintiri’s N22bn expenditure
A group, Adamawa Progressive Movement (APM) has called for the probe of N22 billion expenditure incurred by Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, 86 day-old administration.
It would be recalled that Fintiri, Speaker of Adamawa House of Assembly, assumed office as Acting Governor, following the impeachment of Murtala Nyako in July 2014. Read more
Court jails man five years for employment scam
A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced Happiness Eboh to five years in prison for duping some persons seeking employment with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
According to a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday by the NSCDC, Justice Babs Kuewumi found Eboh guilty on the count of conspiracy. Read more
Ihedioha blames executive for corruption
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Emeka Ihedioha, on Sunday blamed the executive arm of government of failing to curb the wide spread of corruption in the country.
Ihedioha made the accusation in Benin, when he led other members of the House to condole with the House Minority Whip, Mr Samson Osagie, over the demise of his father. The deputy speaker, who was responding to questions from newsmen, said the 7th assembly had done its best to expose corruption in the country. Read more
Senate leader condemns politicising visit to Buhari
Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba on Sunday condemned attempts to politicise his decision to lead a Cross Rivers State delegation to the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Ndoma Egba said this in Abuja, on Sunday, while reacting to a statement credited to a group of elders of the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress. The group led by Eyo Nsa Ekpo, had in a statement described the Senate leader as leading a group of “political gold diggers” to visit Buhari in an attempt to reap where they did not sow. Read more

First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan made her first public appearance with the husband in Abuja on Sunday since the presidential election.

NDDC Director denies involvement in N2.4bn fraud
THE Executive Direct, Projects, in the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Tuoyo Omatsuli, accused of being involved in a N2.4 billion fraud in the commission has denied the allegation.
The Managing Director of the NDDC, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia, the commission’s Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Henry Ogiri, and Omatsuli, were all fingered in the alleged fraud. Read more
Adoke’s friend leaked plot to abduct me – Kashamu
Ogun-East senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, has said that he got wind of the plot to illegally abduct and take him to the United States of America to face charges of illicit drugs through a friend of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN).
He said this in a petition dated April 15, 2015 to the National Human Rights Commission, seeking the commission’s intervention. Read more

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says the number of internet users on the country’s telecom networks increased to 83,362,814 as at February 2015.

As several people trekked long distances to felicitate with winners of the just concluded 2015 general elections, two people have commenced trekking from Makarfi to Kaduna to sympathise with Gov. Muktar Yero.

For leading a delegation to visit the president-elect, a forum of concerned elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross Rivers on Sunday lambasted the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, calling him “a gold digger.”
The group however vowed to resist any attempt by the Senate leader to foist himself on the Cross Rivers chapter of APC, saying “only a few weeks ago they were vociferous in their opposition to General Buhari’s ambition, raising dubious, sectional and religious sentiments.” Read more

Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governor Elect of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwa says the President Elect, Gen.Muhammadu Buhari will be a Nigerian President and not President of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that the President will ensure justice to both the people of the South South and South East in the sharing of political positions.
He said the leadership of the party is consulting on how to zone political offices across the country, asserting that contrary to the believe that the APC is being torn apart over sharing of political offices, “the party is consulting and I am sure after consultation the party will announce its decision”.
