PDP extends Markafi-led Caretaker Committee’s tenure

The just concluded Non-Elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja has extended the tenure of the party’s national caretaker committee. The tenure of the committee, which is headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi ended today.

However, the convention extended its tenure by four months, saying that this would enable it to settle down and organise an elective national convention of the party later in the year. Read more

Protesters occupy Shell plant in Nigeria

Hundreds of protesters have occupied a Nigerian oil facility owned by Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell, demanding that a local company take over its operations, a community leader said Saturday.

184,979 retirees benefit from pensions scheme — PenCom

The National Pension Commission on Saturday said no fewer than 184,979 retirees benefited from Contributory Pensions Scheme. The acting director-general of the commission, Mrs. Aisha Dahir-Umar, announced this at a retreat organised by Pension Operators (PenOp) in Abeokuta.

She said as of March 2017, the retirees were currently receiving pensions regularly with an average monthly payment of N6.7 billion. Read more

US fighter pilot ejects on emergency landing at Bahrain airport

A US military plane made an emergency landing at Bahrain International Airport and its pilot ejected on the runway Saturday after an engine malfunction, a navy spokesman said.

The F/A 18E fighter aircraft “experienced an engine malfunction and attempted to divert to Sheik(h) Isa Air Base, Bahrain”, said spokesman Commander William Urban of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, which is based in Bahrain. Read more
