The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monday reversed itself on the Kogi Central senatorial rerun election, as it declared Alhaji Ahmed Ogembe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of Saturday’s election.
The election was declared inconclusive on Sunday following the cancellation of results in some areas.
But the retuning officer, Professor Rotimi Ajayi, yesterday at the INEC office in Okene, said the areas where they initially cancelled, the presiding officers came up with copies of the results that were torn during the election as a result of crisis.
He stressed that they were able to make use of that result sheet from the presiding officer which showed that the PDP senatorial candidate scored more votes than others.
Ajayi therefore declared Ogembe of the PDP winner with a total vote of 46,503. Read more
